My adorable 2.5 year old granddaughter, refused to wear her mask when I masked up to take her and her older sister for a nature walk to their local pond. I said, No mask, no walk. Her parents quickly realized I wasn’t budging and backed me up. I went to pond with my older granddaughter her 5 year old sister. When we got back, the 2-year-old came up to me and said “I’m not gonna cry no more.” She got the message quickly. Little ones need to realize you mean business about masks before you try to get on a plane or visit grandma.
Young children will listen and follow the rules–even at two years of age–if you are firm, model what you want them to do and normalize the behavior. If everyone in the family is wearing a mask, if dollies get and wear their masks. children will easily follow along.
Remember, children watch those around them for guidance.
